Internet Access via Internet Router as IP Client

Internet / Account Information / Internet Connection

If you are using an internet router, you can connect the FRITZ!Box to the router and configure it as an IP client.

Operating Mode

When the FRITZ!Box is operated as an IP client behind a router, the following properties apply to the FRITZ!Box:

  • It receives an IP address from the upstream router via DHCP.
  • It becomes part of the router's IP network.
  • The network devices connected to the FRITZ!Box receive their IP addresses from the upstream router.
  • The firewall of the FRITZ!Box is disabled.

Connecting the FRITZ!Box to the Router

Connect the FRITZ!Box with the router, if you have not done so already. Use the network cable included with the FRITZ!Box.

  1. Insert one end of the network cable into the port on the FRITZ!Box labeled "WAN".
  2. Insert the other end into a network socket on the router.

Changing the Connection Settings

The most frequently used values for the connection settings are entered already. You can adjust these values to your requirements.

IP Settings

Specify how the FRITZ!Box is to receive the IP settings:

Obtain the IP address automatically (DHCP)

Select this option if the FRITZ!Box is to receive its IP settings from the other router. Enter the DHCP host name of router in the "DHCP hostname" field. Leave the field empty if you do not know the name.

Configure the IP address manually

Select this option if the FRITZ!Box is to receive a fixed IP address. Enter the IP address and the other IP settings in the appropriate fields.
