Setting Up the Media Server of the FRITZ!Box
As a media server, the FRITZ!Box can transmit music, image and video files to suitable playback devices or software in the local network (media streaming). This way all devices in the FRITZ!Box network (e.g. computers or televisions) can access a central media collection.
Prerequisite
The devices and software for playing back your media data must support the UPnP AV standard.
Preparation
- Copy your media files to a USB storage device, for instance a memory stick or hard disk.
To be used with the media server, USB storage media must be formatted with the NTFS, FAT/FAT32 or EXT2 file system. The manufacturer can provide you with information on the file system of your USB storage device.
- Connect the USB storage device to the USB port of the FRITZ!Box.
Disabling the USB Remote Connection for USB storage devices in the FRITZ!Box
- Switch to the "System / View" menu in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Enable the expert view and click "Apply".
- Click "Home Network / USB Devices / USB Remote Connection".
- Disable the "USB storage media" option.
- Save your settings by clicking "Apply".
This disables the USB port for USB storage in the FRITZ!Box.
Enabling the Media Server in the FRITZ!Box
- Switch to the "Home Network / Storage (NAS)" menu in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Select the "Options Enabled" tab.
- Select the option "Media server enabled".
- Click "Apply" to save the setting.
Now the media server of the FRITZ!Box is enabled.
Indexing Media Files
- Stay in the "Home Network / Storage (NAS)" menu of the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Select the "Options Enabled" tab.
- In the table "Storage device(s) at the FRITZ!Box," click on "not created" for every kind of storage listed that contains media files.
Indexing of the media files complete when the entry "was created" is displayed next to each storage device that you indexed.
Now you can access your media collection from all devices in the FRITZ!Box network.
