Improving Powerline Connections
The following tips can help you improve your powerline connections.
Tips for Better Powerline Connections
Connecting FRITZ!Powerline Devices Optimally
- Connect FRITZ!Powerline devices directly to wall outlets. Do not use any extension cables or multiple sockets.
- Test your FRITZ!Powerline devices by inserting them into other wall outlets.
- Reduce the distance between the FRITZ!Powerline devices.
- Avoid powerline connections on different phases, fuse boxes, dimmers, and ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI).
Note:Optimize the quality of your powerline network using the AVM FRITZ!Powerline software, which you can download at en.avm.de/service.
Eliminating Sources of Interference
- Check whether other electrical devices are causing interference by unplugging them as a test. Common sources of interference include switched-mode power supplies, dimmers and halogen systems, refrigerators and freezers, dryers and washing machines, or electric pumps in operation.
- Lay the VDSL cable at least 10 cm away from electrical wiring and outlets.
Multi-Outlet Strips
If you can't avoid using multi-outlet strips:
- Use a multi-outlet strip without surge protection. If there is absolutely no way to avoid using a multi-outlet strip with surge protection, then the surge protection should be located behind the powerline device.
- Connect as few devices as possible to the multi-outlet strip.
- Insert your powerline device in the first socket, directly at the cable.
