Important Instructions for Wireless Guest Access
With the "Guest Access (private hotspot)" function, FRITZ!Box offers a quick and simple way to make your existing connection available for your guests to share. For this your FRITZ!Box completely separates the guest access from your home network. This means guests can use the Internet, but have no access to your private network, for instance to the contents of shared files or printers.
FRITZ!Box guest access offers various options that grant you and your guests a high security standard:
- Network key and encryption with a high security level (WPA, WPA2, WPA-WPA2)
- Option to "Restrict Internet applications: Only surfing and mail allowed"
- Option: "Display captive portal with information on the provider of the guest access", and associated with this, the options
- "Permit login with guest access only after consent to terms of use" and

- In addition, you can add a free text and image to the registration mask, like a company logo, for instance.
- Option: "Send log of devices' login and logoff events by e-mail (FRITZ!Box Push Service)".
- Additional options available at "Internet / Filters / Guest Network":
- flexible time limits for guest access
- detailed filters for web pages (URL blacklist/whitelist)
- filtering of web sites
- individual adaptability of restrictions on Internet applications
- Time control: "Disconnect automatically after ..."
- option to allow / prevent "communication with each other"
Important Instructions
With a wireless guest access you provide your guests access to the Internet via your connection. As the owner and operator of the connection, you determine the terms of use for this wireless radio network yourself, but in some circumstances you may be held responsible for legal violations that take place on this connection. We recommend that you point out to your guests that the wireless guest access may not be used for illegal purposes (e.g. copyright infringements).
The FRITZ!Box's control, documentation and settings options can help you reduce this risk, but cannot guarantee any comprehensive technical security against abuse of your wireless guest access. For this reason you should require your wireless guests to always accept your terms of use before granting them access to the Internet. As the operator, you specify the concrete conditions of use for your application scenario (hotel, restaurant, practice, etc.) in a special information text. You should ensure that your guests have free access to the terms of use for your wireless guest access.
Of course you can monitor your wireless guest access and restrict its use. The log function of the FRITZ!Box automatically provides you with the registration times and MAC addresses of all wireless devices used by guests to your wireless LAN. With various filters you can, for instance, block the use of standards software for exchange platforms and reduce the functionality of the wireless guest network to surfing and mailing. Nevertheless it is advisable to change the password regularly to protect the wireless guest access with a new, sufficiently secure password. Each time the FRITZ!Box is restarted, wireless guests must re-register and consent to the terms of use for your wireless guest access.
