Operating Mode

In the "Operating Mode" area, specify whether the FRITZ!Box connects to the Internet itself or shares an Internet connection already existing in the network.

The "Operating Mode" area is displayed only if the "External modem or router" option was selected in the "Connection" area.

  • Make own connection to the Internet

Select this operating mode if the FRITZ!Box establishes the Internet connection itself and makes it available to the network devices in your network. In this case the integrated firewall of the FRITZ!Box is active.

  • Share existing Internet connection in the network (IP client mode)

Select this operating mode if the FRITZ!Box is integrated into the existing network as a network device and shares the Internet connection. In this case the integrated firewall of the FRITZ!Box is not available.
