FRITZ!Box searches for updates periodically
This AVM service automatically searches the AVM web pages for firmware updates for your FRITZ!Box at regular intervals. Regular updates increase the security of your FRITZ!Box in your home network and on your internet connection.
Configuring Settings for Automatic Updates
Settings for automatic updates are configured in the "System / Update / Auto-Update" menu. Specify there whether your FRITZ!Box should notify you about available updates or install them automatically.
Notification About New Updates
When an update for your FRITZ!Box is found, you will be notified in the upper area of the "Overview" page. Updates will be installed automatically only if you specify this under "System / Update / Auto-Update". Start an update by clicking on the link "Update available" on the "Overview" page with the mouse, or in the "System / Update" menu.
Disabling the Search for Updates
The search for updates is enabled in the FRITZ!Box upon delivery. You have the option of disabling the search for updates for your FRITZ!Box if you do not wish it to search for firmware updates automatically:
- Disable the setting "FRITZ!Box searches for updates periodically" on the "AVM Services" page.
- Click on the "Apply" button.
Diagnostics and Maintenance
To improve the product and ensure safe operation on your connection, AVM uses diagnostic data where needed. AVM provides these improvements and further developments for your FRITZ!Box in the form of regular updates.
- Your FRITZ!Box sends any error reports to AVM whenever errors occur. This helps AVM detect and resolve problems more quickly.
- When you visit the AVM website, your FRITZ!Box imparts device-specific data (such as the FRITZ!Box model, firmware version) to AVM. This helps us tailor our service more precisely to your FRITZ!Box.
Viewing Diagnostics Data
To view the diagnostics data, click on the "View Diagnostics Data" button. A txt file is downloaded via your browser, which you can view using an editor.
Disabling the Sending of Diagnostics Data
The sending of diagnostics data is enabled in the FRITZ!Box upon delivery, but if you do not wish to have these data sent, disable the "Diagnostics and maintenance" setting.
Supplying an email Address for Queries
If you enter your email address in the field "Your email address (optional)", this address may be used for any queries that arise in processing the error report.
Note:An email address entry is voluntary and has no effect on the sending of diagnostics data or device-specific data.
Protection of Your Personal Data
For the AVM services "Search for updates", "Security report" and "Diagnostics and maintenance", device-specific data such as the current firmware version of your FRITZ!Box and diagnostics data are transmitted to AVM. These data are important for AVM for the following reasons:
- Device-specific data are required to determine the appropriate update for your FRITZ!Box model and firmware version.
- AVM needs and uses diagnostics data to remedy errors and problems, and to improve the quality of the product and our services.
Note that the diagnostics data and device-specific data do not include any personalized data. AVM does not pass these data on to third parties. Please also note the exact wording of the Data Privacy Statement.
We recommend leaving all AVM services enabled.
