Using FRITZ!Box Energy-Saving Functions

The FRITZ!Box is designed to use power as economically and efficiently as possible, for instance by automatically minimizing processor power during standby and the energy consumption of ports that are not in use.

Similarly, the modules of the FRITZ!Box adapt their power consumption to current use and reduce it when they are not being used.

Wi-Fi

The wireless module of the FRITZ!Box works in "Green AP mode". This means it is especially energy-efficient: As soon as no more wireless devices are connected with the FRITZ!Box, the power consumption of the wireless module is automatically reduced to a minimum. "Green AP" operation has no effect on the accessibility of the Wi-Fi network for wireless devices, since the new registration of a wireless device automatically ends the mode, thus restoring full Wi-Fi functionality to the FRITZ!Box.

You can further reduce the power consumption of the Wi-Fi network by

  • turning off the Wi-Fi network with the "WLAN" button whenever no more wireless devices are registered with the FRITZ!Box
  • configuring a switching schedule for the Wi-Fi network in the "Wi-Fi / Schedule" menu
  • reducing the maximum transmitter power in the "Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi Channel" menu.

DSL

As soon as no more data are being exchanged with the Internet, the FRITZ!Box reduces power consumption.

Note:However, power consumption can only be reduced if your DSL provider supports energy-saving measures. Contact your DSL provider for more information.

Analog FON Ports

Non-active extensions do not use any energy.

USB Devices

A total of 900 mA is available to the USB devices connected directly to the FRITZ!Box. USB devices with higher power consumption (like UMTS modems or hard drives) can be connected to the FRITZ!Box via an active USB hub. Active hubs have their own power supply.

Green Mode (USB Port)

For each of the two USB ports on your FRITZ!Box you can specify whether the USB ports are to be operated in "Power Mode" at full power (USB 3.0), or in "Green Mode" with reduced power consumption (USB 2.0).

  • The "Green Mode" setting to reduce power at the USB ports on the FRITZ!Box is found under "Home Network / USB/Storage / USB Settings".

LAN

The power consumption of each LAN port is minimized automatically whenever no device is connected. In addition, with the "Green Mode" setting, energy-saving settings can be configured for each network device connected to a LAN port.

Green Mode (LAN Port)

Green Mode saves power by reducing the speed of data transmission on the LAN port to 100 Mbit/s. The settings for Green mode are available in the "LAN Settings" area in the "Home Network / Network / Network Settings" menu.
