Online Monitor
The Online Monitor provides you with current information on your internet connection and on additional functions enabled.
Click on the "Refresh" button to view the current values.
Reconnect
When you click the "Reconnect" button, the internet connection is cleared briefly and then resumed. When you do this the FRITZ!Box generally receives a new IP address from the internet service provider. If IPv6 is enabled in the FRITZ!Box, a new IPv6 prefix will be assigned as well.
Note:The "Reconnect" button is available only if the FRITZ!Box can establish internet connections itself. If the FRITZ!Box is configured as an IP client, for instance, then it cannot establish internet connections on its own.
Current Utilization of the Internet Connection
The two diagrams "Downstream" and "Upstream" display the current utilization of the Internet connection as a graph. The two graphs show the Internet data traffic taking place via the FRITZ!Box.
Downstream
The graph in the "Downstream" area shows the amount of data that arrive at the FRITZ!Box from the Internet.
The "Downstream" area displays two data streams: conventional Internet data traffic of participants in the home network, and data traffic caused by IPTV.
- The data streams are displayed in different colors in the graph.
- There are two separate IP connections: one for network participants' conventional data traffic over the Internet and one for data traffic over IPTV.
- Video on demand: Data accessed by video on demand are part of the Internet data traffic and use the corresponding IP connection.
Upstream
The diagram in the "Upstream" area shows the amount of data that reach the Internet via the FRITZ!Box.
Network applications with different prioritization rules are differentiated according to the type of prioritization.
Standard Prioritized Applications
There are a number of protocols for which the FRITZ!Box has preconfigured prioritization rules. These rules cannot be changed or removed. The protocols in question are:
- TCP (Transmission Control Protocol): confirmation packets for TCP downloads are always transmitted with priority in the upstream direction to accelerate TCP downloads.
- WebDAV: The WebDAV protocol is used for synchronizing the data of a USB storage medium connected to a FRITZ!Box with an online drive. The necessary data transmission always takes place as a background application, so that it will not interfere with any surfing that might take place at the same time.
- TR-069 (technical directive): TR-069 is a protocol for communication with the DSL provider's configuration server. It is used for automatic configuration of the Internet connection on DSL lines and for automatic FRITZ!OS updates. Data transmission is prioritized to ensure that these processes can be completed without interference.
- IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol): IGMP is a protocol belonging to the Internet protocol (IP) family, used to organize multicast groups. Multicast is transmission from one sender to multiple recipients, as for instance in radio and television broadcasting. IGMP packet traffic is prioritized.
- MSTV (Microsoft TV): Data transmission taking place as part of Microsoft TV receives prioritized treatment.
- ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol): The ICMP protocol is responsible for the exchange of status and error messages over IPv4 within computer networks. When the FRITZ!Box discards data packets because the destination cannot be reached or for other reasons, then FRITZ!Box notifies the computer that sent the data packets about the data transmission failure via ICMP. Traffic with ICMP packets is prioritized.
- ICMPv6 (Internet Control Message Protocol for the Internet Protocol Version 6: ICMPv6 is the version of ICMP used with IPv6.
- DNS (Domain Name Service): DNS is a global directory service in the Internet. Queries for the Internet are sent in the form of domain names (e.g. avm.de). DNS resolves domain names into IP addresses. DNS query traffic is prioritized.
