Internet / Account Information / Internet Connection

The Internet account information for the FRITZ!Box is configured on the "Internet Connection" page.

Internet connection via

Select how the FRITZ!Box is connected to the Internet access:

Fiber optic

Select Fiber (fiber optic), if you connected the FRITZ!Box directly to the fiber optic socket.

LAN 1

Select "LAN 1" if the FRITZ!Box is connected to a modem via the "LAN 1" socket.

Account Information

If account information is required for your Internet connection, you received this information from your Internet provider. Check the documentation sent by from your Internet Service Provider.

If account information is required:

  1. Select "Yes".
  2. Enter the account information you received from your Internet service provider in the appropriate fields.

Changing the Connection Settings

The most frequently used values for the connection settings are entered already. You can adjust these values to your requirements.

IP Settings

The entry of IP settings is required in only a few connection scenarios. The IP settings are displayed only in these connection scenarios.

Instructions: Selecting "Obtain the IP address automatically (DHCP)"

  1. Select the "Obtain the IP address automatically (DHCP)" option if you have one of the following situations:
    • Your internet provider informed you that you receive your IP settings automatically via DHCP.
    • The FRITZ!Box is an IP client of another router and is to automatically receive its IP address from the other router.

      Important:Not all FRITZ!Box models support IP client mode.

  2. Enter the name of the DHCP server in the "DHCP hostname" field:
    • If the FRITZ!Box receives its IP address from the DHCP server of the internet provider, then enter the DHCP host name supplied by your internet provider. Leave the "fritz.box" entry in the field if you did not receive a DHCP host name.
    • If the FRITZ!Box is an IP client of another router, do not change the "fritz.box" entry.

Instructions: Selecting "Configure the IP address manually"

  1. Select the "Configure the IP address manually" option in the following cases:
    • Your internet provider informed you of fixed IP settings.
    • The FRITZ!Box is an IP client of another router and is to receive a fixed IP address.
  2. Enter the IP settings in the corresponding fields.

Checking the Internet Connection after "Apply" Has Been Clicked

Once you have entered the data for your Internet access, check whether an Internet connection can be established.

  1. Enable the setting "Check Internet connection after "Apply" has been clicked".
  2. Click the "Apply" button to start the connection check.

If the test fails:

  1. Check your entries again.
  2. Make sure that the Internet connection is ready.
    • The status of the Internet connection is displayed in the "Overview" menu. If the FRITZ!Box is connected directly to the Internet connection, look in the "Interfaces" area. If the FRITZ!Box is connected to the Internet connection, via the "LAN 1" socket, look in the "Connection" area.
    • If necessary, unplug the FRITZ!Box briefly from the mains and then reconnect it and wait until the Internet connection is ready.
  3. Start the test routine again.

    If the test fails again, please contact your Internet service provider.
