Auto Update – Installing Updates Automatically

System / Update / Auto Update

On the "System / Update / Auto Update" page you can specify when and which updates should be installed automatically, or whether you would like to be merely informed about new FRITZ!OS updates. The default setting is for notification of updates and automatic installation of all updates (level III).

When an update is available, it will be displayed on the start page of the user interface and in the "Mesh Overview", or you can request notifications by email via the "New FRITZ!OS" push service. With updates for FRITZ!OS, the firmware of the FRITZ!Box, you receive further developments of existing features and new features for your FRITZ!Box.

Instructions: Configuring Automatic Update

  1. Go to "System / Update" and select the "Auto Update" tab.
  2. Choose Level I to Level III

Select one of the following options for automatic updates:

    LevelSettingUpdates Will Be Installed Automatically
I Notify about new FRITZ!OS versions None
II Notify me about new versions of FRITZ!OS and install necessary updates automatically

Only updates regarded as necessary for continued secure and reliable operation of your home network (for instance, security updates)

III Notify me about new versions of FRITZ!OS and install new versions automatically (recommended)

    All

  3. Specify Time Range for Updates

If you like, you can specify a three-hour period during which updates can be installed under "Time Range for Updates".

Important:The FRITZ!Box is preconfigured for automatic updates, generally at night. During installation all internet and telephone connections will be briefly interrupted. If you require a stable internet connection without interruption at night, for instance for working on servers, large downloads or updates, then select a time period that works better for you.

  4. Initiate Updates via Other Home Network Devices

In the FRITZ!Box home network you can initiate updates of all FRITZ! products, for instance via an AVM FRITZ!Repeater, without having to log in with the FRITZ!Box.

If you do not want updates to be initiated without a login, disable the "Updates to new versions of FRITZ!OS can be initiated by other devices from the home network without prior notice" option.

Note:FRITZ!Boxes that are in the same Mesh can start updates regardless of this setting.

  5. Save your settings by clicking on "Apply".

Disabling Automatic Updates

If you do not wish to have updates installed or searched for automatically, disable the "FRITZ!Box searches for updates periodically" setting under "Internet / Account Information / AVM Services". For more information, see the AVM Services Help page.

Note:We recommend keeping the search for updates and the automatic installation of updates enabled. This way you benefit from further developments of existing and new features for your FRITZ!Box.
