Configuring Automatic Fax Detection in the FRITZ!Box

You can receive faxes with the FRITZ!Box while remaining reachable by phone at all telephone numbers. For this, configure automatic fax detection.

Configuring Automatic Fax Detection

For automatic fax detection, set up the fax function and a FRITZ!Box answering machine. The answering machine then checks each incoming call to see whether it is a telephone call or a fax. Callers can leave a message, and faxes are forwarded to FRITZ!Box fax.

If you pick up a fax call on the telephone before the answering machine answers, you can forward the call to FRITZ!Box fax.

Requirements

  • Under "Telephony / Telephony Devices" in the user interface, the fax function is not configured yet, or the fax function configuration was deleted.
  • Fax transmission with T.38 is enabled in the user interface (advanced view) under "Telephony / Telephone Numbers / Line Settings", in the "Telephony Connection / Change Settings" section.

Instructions: Configuring the Fax Function

  1. Select "Telephony / Telephony Devices" in the user interface.
  2. Click on "Configure New Device".
  3. Select "Fax function" and click on "Next".
  4. Enter a fax ID, for instance, your telephone number or your name.

  6. Specify whether received faxes are to be saved on a storage medium (sent faxes are not stored). If a USB storage medium is to be used, the USB remote connection must be disabled.

This step is not necessary if an email address was already configured under "System / Push Service / Sender".
