Configuring the Fax Function

The FRITZ!Box can send and receive faxes without any additional devices or software. The fax text is entered and faxes sent in the web browser. Graphic files in JPG or PNG format can be appended to any fax transmission.

The FRITZ!Box can save received faxes and/or forward them to an email address.

Overview

You can use the fax function in different ways: If you would like to send and receive faxes, you need a telephone number only for the fax function. Once the fax function has been configured, you can no longer be reached at this telephone number.

If you would like to remain reachable at all telephone numbers, you can configure the fax function for either sending faxes or receiving faxes. Here is an overview of the options:

Maximum Fax Length

A maximum of ten A4 pages can be transmitted as a fax. If you append a graphics file, page 10 is reserved for the graphics.

Appending Graphic Files

In Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox you can append graphic files (JPG or PNG format). Images larger than DIN-A4 will be automatically reduced in size.

Configuring the Fax Function

Instructions: Configuring the Fax Function

  1. Select "Telephony / Telephony Devices" in the user interface.
  2. Click on "Configure New Device".
  3. Select "Fax function" and click on "Next".
  4. Enter a fax ID, for instance, your telephone number or your name.

    Faxes without a sender ID are blocked by many recipients.

  5. The FRITZ!Box can forward received and sent faxes to an email address. To do this, enable "Forward by email" and enter one or more email addresses (separated by commas with no spaces).
  6. Specify whether saved and received faxes are to be saved on a local storage medium. If a USB storage medium is to be used, the USB remote connection must be disabled.
  7. Click on "Next".
  8. If you enabled "Forward by email", enter an email address and the corresponding account information for sending.

    This step is not necessary if an email address was already configured under "System / Push Service / Sender".

  9. Click on "Next".
  10. Select a telephone number for faxing.
  11. Click on "Next" and "Apply".

  1. Select "Telephony / Fax" in the user interface.
  2. Click on "Settings”.
  3. Enter your sender information under "Send Fax":

Instructions: Disabling Fax Reception

Once the fax function has been configured, you can disable fax reception. Then you can still be reached by telephone at the telephone number selected for sending faxes.

  1. Select "Telephony / Fax" in the user interface.
  2. Click on "Settings”.
  3. Enable "Send faxes only".
  4. Click on "OK".

Configuring Automatic Fax Detection

You can receive faxes with the FRITZ!Box while remaining reachable by phone at all telephone numbers. For this, configure automatic fax detection.
