With the FRITZ!Box parental controls feature you can block and unblock internet access for network devices with a single click. With the access profiles you can limit the duration and content of internet use for each network device.

Note:The "Internet / Filters" menu is available only when the internet connection has been set up in the FRITZ!Box and the FRITZ!Box is configured as a router. The "Internet / Filters" menu is not available if the FRITZ!Box is configured as an IP client.

Device Block

Blocking Internet Access for a Device

  1. Select the device in the table and click on "Block".

Internet use is blocked immediately for this device. The following apply to blocked devices:

  • Communication within the home network continues to work.
  • Blocked devices are designated with this symbol in the table.
  • Tickets cannot be used to lift the block.

Unblocking Internet Access for a Device

  1. Select the device in the table and click on "Unblock".

Internet use is allowed immediately for this device. Any restrictions specified by an assigned access profile remain effective.

Access Profiles

With an access profile,s you can limit the duration and content of internet use for each network device. Every network device that registers with the guest network automatically receives the "Guest" access profile. You can configure your own access profiles and assign them to network devices.

Assigning a Different Access Profile

  1. Click on the "Change Access Profile" button.
  2. Select a different access profile in the "Access Profiles" column.

Online Time Today

The online time each device is allowed is specified in the access profile. The "Online time today" column indicates whether there are any restrictions:

ValueMeaning
unlimited There are no restrictions on online time in the access profile.
Progress bar There are restrictions on online time in the access profile. The online time used on the current day is shown as the color in the progress bar.

Parental controls blocked

When the FRITZ!Box detected an attempt to circumvent the configured parental controls, the entry "Parental controls blocked" appears. The FRITZ!Box blocks the parental controls, internet use is blocked for this network device. The FRITZ!Box can detect an attempt to circumvent parental controls only when online time is restricted in the "Standard" access profile. When parental controls are blocked, it is not possible to assign another access profile.

You can cancel the block by changing the IP settings in the network device: Enter an IP address that has not been used in your network yet, or specify that the network device receives its IP address from the DHCP server of the FRITZ!Box.

Check Online Time

Every network device can check the time it spent online:

  1. Open a browser on the network device.
  2. Enter the following in the address bar: fritz.box/surf.lua.

An overview is displayed with the title "Parental Controls".

Online time today: the amount of time already spent online today.

All of the settings for the assigned access profile are shown in the overview.

Ticket for Additional Online Time

The online time can be extended or surfing allowed outside the specified period with a ticket.

  • Each ticket extends the online time for 45 minutes.
  • Tickets are redeemed in the browser, on the page that reports when online time has expired.
  • No tickets can be redeemed for a blocked network device.
  • The tickets are available at "Internet / Filters / Access Profiles".
