Wi-Fi Network
Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi Network
On the "Wi-Fi Network" page the name and the QR code for the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network are displayed. You also receive information on wireless devices that are connected with the FRITZ!Box.
Establishing a Wi-Fi Connection with the QR Code
On mobile devices you can establish Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box using a QR code. Then you do not need to enter the Wi-Fi network key manually.
Scanning QR Codes on a Smartphone or Tablet
Many smartphones and tablets can scan QR codes using the camera app. You can test whether your smartphone or tablet can do this: Open the camera app and point the camera at a QR code. If the device detects the QR code, a message appears with the information stored in the QR code. If no message appears, you can use a QR code app to scan the QR code.
With the following QR code, for instance, you can open the English AVM webpage:
Instructions: Establishing a Wi-Fi Connection with the QR Code
- Select "Wi-Fi / "Wi-Fi Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Scan the displayed QR code on the smartphone or tablet.
- You can print out the QR code for future use by clicking on the "Print Info Sheet" button.
Changing the Name of the Wi-Fi Network
You can change the name of the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network (SSID).
Rules
- Afterward, the Wi-Fi connection must be reconfigured on all wireless devices.
- Wi-Fi Mesh steering is available only if the Wi-Fi networks on 2.4 and 5 GHz have the same name. Wi-Fi Mesh steering optimizes the Wi-Fi connections and the capacity of the FRITZ! devices in the Mesh.
- Maximum length of the name: 32 characters (List of Valid Characters)
Instructions: Changing the Wi-Fi Network Name
- Select "Wi-Fi / "Wi-Fi Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Enter a new name for the Wi-Fi network (SSID).
- Click on "Apply".
Wi-Fi Name Visible or Hidden
When you disable the "Name of the Wi-Fi network visible" setting, the Wi-Fi of the FRITZ!Box is no longer be visible (hidden) for other wireless devices. This does not protect from unauthorized access to your Wi-Fi devices and your network. Decisive for Wi-Fi security is the Wi-Fi network key, which you specify under "Wi-Fi / Security" in the user interface. We recommend a length of at least 20 characters.
Hiding the Wi-Fi name also has the following disadvantages:
- When registering new wireless devices, you must enter the Wi-Fi network name of the FRITZ!Box and the Wi-Fi network key manually.
- Some wireless devices may not longer be able to connect to the FRITZ!Box.
- The FRITZ!Box can no longer optimally control wireless devices in the Mesh.

- Wireless devices previously connected with the FRITZ!Box
- Wireless devices that failed to connect (click on "Show unsuccessful registration attempts)
