Configuring the Fax Function

With the FRITZ!Box you have a fax machine as well. The FRITZ!Box can send and receive faxes without any additional devices or software.

The fax text is entered and faxes sent in the web browser. The FRITZ!Box can save received faxes and/or forward them to an email address.

Overview

For sending faxes you need a telephone number that can be used exclusively for faxing. Once the fax function has been configured, you can no longer be reached at this telephone number.

If you only wish to receive faxes, you can use any telephone number set up in your FRITZ!Box. Then you can still be reached by telephone at this number. Here is an overview of the options:

RequirementsYou CanInstructions
You have a telephone number that can be used exclusively for faxing and is not needed for telephone calls. Send and receive faxes. "Configuring the Fax Function with Telephone Number"
You would like to be reachable by phone at all telephone numbers. Receive faxes. "Configuring Automatic Fax Detection"

Maximum Fax Length

A maximum of two A4 pages can be transmitted as a fax. If you append a graphics file, the second page is reserved for the graphics.

Note:You can check afterward whether the complete fax was sent. For this, enable forwarding by email. Then the FRITZ!Box sends all faxes that are received or sent to an email address.

Appending Graphic Files

In Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox you can append graphic files (JPG or PNG format). Images larger than DIN A4 will be automatically reduced in size.

Configuring the Fax Function with Telephone Number

Configuring Automatic Fax Detection

For automatic fax detection, set up the fax function and a FRITZ!Box answering machine. The answering machine then checks each incoming call to see whether it is a telephone call or a fax. Callers can leave a message, and faxes are forwarded to FRITZ!Box fax.

If you pick up a fax call on the telephone before the answering machine answers, you can forward the call to FRITZ!Box fax.
