Switching Smart Home Devices On and Off in Groups

Smart Home devices that have been grouped together can be switched on and off in various ways. You can switch individual Smart Home devices or the entire group on and off manually. You can also configure automatic switching setting for the group. There are various ways to do this:

Switching a Single Device On and Off

Overview

A single Smart Home device from a group can be switching on and off independently of the group. The next time the group is switched (manually or automatically), the device will be switched along with the group.

Options

A single Smart Home device can be switched on and off as follows:

  • with the button on the device
  • with the button in the FRITZ!Box user interface under "Home Network / Smart Home"

Switching a Group On and Off Manually

Overview

All sockets on the Smart Home devices belonging to a group can be switched on or off, regardless of the switch status of the individual devices or any automatic switching configured. The sockets remain on or off until the next time they are switched (manually or automatically).

Options

Depending on the kind of the group, you have the following options for switching the group on and off manually:

Kind of GroupOptions
Group without master
  • with the group button in the FRITZ!Box user interface under "Home Network / Smart Home"
Group with master
  • with the group button or the button for the master in the FRITZ!Box user interface under "Home Network / Smart Home"
  • with the button on the Smart Home device configured as the master

A master is a Smart Home device that regulates the switch status (on/off) for the entire group. You can define a master under "Home Network / Smart Home / Edit Group ".

Switching a Group On and Off Automatically (Schedule)

Overview

You can configure various types of automatic switching (schedules) for groups. For instance, you can define times to switch on and off for individual days of the week, or configure automatic switching that takes all its switching times from your Google calendar.

Options

Depending on the type of group, you have the following options for configuring automatic switching:

Kind of GroupOptions
Group without master
  • Configure automatic switching under "Home Network / Smart Home / Edit Group "
Group with master, master belongs to group
Group with master, master does not belong to group
  • Configure automatic switching for the group under "Home Network / Smart Home / Edit Group "
  • Configure automatic switching for the master under "Home Network / Smart Home / Edit Master "

You can configure one automatic switching schedule for the group and another for the master. Then switching will be performed at all times defined in both automatic switching schedules.

A master is a Smart Home device that regulates the switch status (on/off) for the entire group. You can define a master under "Home Network / Smart Home / Edit Group ".
