Home Network / Home Network Overview

The "Home Network Overview" page shows a graphical overview of how the devices in your home network are connected with each other. Plus, a table shows all of the active devices connected with the FRITZ!Box. FRITZ! products are checked for updates, so that the new versions of FRITZ!OS can be installed from here.

Enabling Mesh WiFi

Overview

In order to enable all FRITZ! devices in your home network for Mesh WiFi, it is necessary to update your FRITZ!Box and any FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline adapters with WiFi to at least FRITZ!OS 6.90. Then the individual radio networks of all FRITZ! devices are synchronized by the FRITZ!Box and combined into one large wireless radio network.

Updating the FRITZ!Box to FRITZ!OS 6.90

With the FRITZ!OS update, your FRITZ!Box becomes the mesh hub of the home network:

  1. Click on "System" in the menu of the user interface.
  2. Click on "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Follow the instructions on the Help page FRITZ!OS Version to complete the update.

Updating FRITZ! devices to FRITZ!OS 6.90

With the FRITZ!OS update via the Home Network Overview of your FRITZ!Box, you automatically integrate your FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline adapters with WiFi into the Mesh WiFi.

  1. Click on "Home Network" in the user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.

    The Home Network of the FRITZ!Box is opened.

  3. Click next to the picture of a FRITZ! device on "Perform update".
  4. Click the "Start Update" button in the next window labeled "Update".
  5. If prompted, enter the password of the FRITZ! product to open the user interface:
    • The password must be entered for FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline devices that have been assigned their own passwords.
    • It is not necessary to enter a password for FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline devices to which no passwords were assigned; in this case the FRITZ!Box password is used automatically.
  6. After the update process begins, you will be redirected to the "Home Network Overview" page. The progress of the update is visible in the activity bar there.

The process of updating to FRITZ!OS 6.90 is completed when the "Update successful" message appears.

Checking Activation of Mesh WiFi

Integration of a FRITZ! device into the Mesh WiFi of your FRITZ!Box was successful when all FRITZ! devices are marked with the "Mesh enabled" symbol .

Important:If the latest FRITZ!OS 6.90 is already installed on a FRITZ! devices, but it has not yet been integrated into the Mesh WiFi, you can integrate it into the WiFi Mesh manually.

Viewing Connected Devices

The diagram shows all devices that are connected with the FRITZ!Box.

Recognizing the Type of Connection

  • The diagram renders the topology of the home network, meaning that you can recognize the way in which a device is connected with the FRITZ!Box: directly, via repeater, via powerline device, or via a different router located in the home network.
  • The style of the connection lines (solid, dashed, dotted) shows the way in which a device is connected: with a network cable, via wireless radio, via DECT, via USB.

Performing Updates

You can perform software updates for FRITZ! products from this page. An update for a product is signaled via the "Perform Update" button.

Using Mesh WiFi

The WiFi Mesh enabled symbol  identifies those FRITZ! devices that are integrated in the Mesh WiFi of the FRITZ!Box. For instructions on how to integrate FRITZ! device into the Mesh WiFi, read this guide: FRITZ! devices in the Mesh WiFi

Displayed Devices

FRITZ!Box

The first entry in the table is always the FRITZ!Box.

Network Devices

The table includes entries for all devices connected with the FRITZ!Box, via network cable or wireless LAN.

Examples: computers (PCs, laptops, ...), mobile terminal devices (smartphones, tablets, ...), powerline devices, wireless repeaters, network-compatible TVs.

  • Link to the device's own web interface: In the "Name" column is a link to the web interface of every device with its own web interface, as long as this interface can be reached.
  • Guest access: If a device is registered with the guest access of the FRITZ!Box, this is shown in the "Properties" column.
  • FRITZ!Box: If another FRITZ!Box is connected via LAN, the other FRITZ!Box will be displayed here.

Telephones

There is an entry in the table for each of the telephones connected with the FRITZ!Box.

Smart Home Devices

There is an entry in the table for each Smart Home devices registered with the FRITZ!Box: smart plugs, radiator controls.

USB Devices

There is an entry in the table for every USB device connected with the FRITZ!Box.
