Mobile Communications

Internet / Mobile Network

The FRITZ!Box can also make the internet connection available via a mobile network connection. The mobile network connection can be established with the following mobile communications devices:

  • via a USB mobile communications dongle in modem operation with LTE/UMTS/HSPA support
  • by a mobile communications dongle in USB tethering mode
  • by a smartphone in USB tethering mode (only smartphones with Android 4.1 or higher)

Note:The "Internet / Mobile Communications" menu is visible in the user interface of the FRITZ!Box only when a mobile communications device is inserted in a USB port on the FRITZ!Box.

Click on the "Apply" button to save your settings. If you leave the page without saving, all of your changes will be discarded.

If the FRITZ!Box connects to the internet over the mobile communications network, it depends on the mobile carrier whether the following FRITZ!Box functions can be used:
- Internet telephony
- incoming VPN connections
- MyFRITZ
- other connections requiring a public IP address

Select how the internet connection via a mobile network should be used. Choose from the following options:

Internet connection via mobile communications enabled

Select this option if the internet connection should be established via the mobile network.

Note:If you want to use the online counter of the FRITZ!Box for the mobile communications connection and have used a different internet connection to date, reset the online counter in the "Internet / Online Monitor" menu.

Simple Failover Protection / Fallback Mode for DSL

You can use this option if the FRITZ!Box uses a DSL connection for internet access.

The mobile network connection will be enabled whenever one of the following events occurs:

  • The internet connection fails because the cable connection to the DSL line is interrupted.
  • DSL synchronization is interrupted.

As soon as the DSL connection is stable and available for at least 30 minutes, internet access will be switched back to the DSL connection.

Expanded Failover Protection / Fallback Mode for DSL/WAN

You can use this option in the following cases:

  • The FRITZ!Box uses a DSL connection to connect to the internet.
  • The FRITZ!Box uses a WAN connection via a modem to connect to the internet and establishes the internet connection itself.

The mobile network connection will be enabled whenever one of the following events occurs:

  • The internet connection fails because the cable connection to the DSL line or modem is interrupted.
  • DSL synchronization is interrupted.
  • The logical internet connection on the PPP or DHCP layer fails.

As soon as the DSL connection is stable and available for at least 30 minutes, internet access will be switched back to the DSL or WAN connection.

Expanded failover protection cannot be used in the following cases:

  • The FRITZ!Box is currently in IP client mode.
  • Fixed IP settings are configured for the internet connection.

Expanded failover protection does not detect any errors in the network of the internet provider.
