System / Backup / Save

On the "Save" page you can save all settings you configured in your FRITZ!Box to a file. In addition to the FRITZ!Box settings, here you can also save your telephony data like telephone book pictures and ring tones, as well as announcements and messages on the answering machines. All saved FRITZ!Box settings and telephony data can be restored to the same FRITZ!Box, a different FRITZ!Box of the same model, or another model of the FRITZ!Box.

Saved telephony data can be restored only together with saved settings.

Advantages of Saving Settings

You can use the backup file with your saved settings to

  • restore the saved settings in your current FRITZ!Box
  • load the saved settings to another FRITZ!Box of the same or a different model.

Instructions: Saving Settings

  1. Open the "System / Backup" menu and then the "Save" tab.
  2. Enter a password of your choice in the "Password" field.
  3. Click on the "Save" button.

    A window for extra confirmation of the saving procedure appears.

  4. Now briefly press any button on the FRITZ!Box within two minutes.

    All LEDs on the FRITZ!Box light up briefly.

  5. Click on "OK" in the FRITZ!Box user interface to conclude the procedure.

Your FRITZ!Box settings will now be saved. Depending on the browser you use and how it is configured, while saving the "FRITZ.Box [...].export" file you can either specify a location for storage, or automatically have the backup file saved to a certain download folder.

This concludes the saving of your FRITZ!Box settings.

Saving Telephony Data

Since telephony data are saved neither when you use the "Save Settings" setting nor when you automatically save your FRITZ!Box settings with the "Save Settings" push service configured, it may make sense for you to save your telephony data explicitly so that they can be restored together with the saved FRITZ!Box settings in the same FRITZ!Box, a FRITZ!Box of the same model, or a FRITZ!Box of a different model.

Example 1

You would like to switch to a different FRITZ!Box model and take the telephony data – along with the saved FRITZ!Box settings – from the previously used FRITZ!Box with you.

Example 2

You would like to restore the factory settings to your FRITZ!Box and then restore your telephony data – along with the saved FRITZ!Box settings.

Prerequisite

  • You previously saved the FRITZ!Box settings from the same FRITZ!Box whose telephony data you want to save now.

Instructions: Saving Telephony Data

  1. Select "System / Backup / Save" in the user interface.
  2. Enable the "Save telephony data" option.
  3. Click on "Save".
  4. The telephony data are compressed into a ZIP file.
  5. Save the ZIP file.

The telephony data have now been backed up.
