Determining the Public IPv4 Address of the FRITZ!Box

  1. Switch on the advanced view in the FRITZ!Box user interface: Standard View and Advanced View.
  2. Click "Internet" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Box.
  3. Click on "Online Monitor" in the "Internet" menu.
  4. Read the IPv4 address in the "Internet, IPv4" line.
    • If the message "FRITZ!Box uses a DS Lite tunnel" is displayed, then the FRITZ!Box does not have a public IPv4 address.

Private IPv4 Addresses

An IPv4 address is a private IPv4 address if it comes from one of the following address ranges:

10.0.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
100.64.0.0 - 100.127.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

Public IPv4 Addresses

An IPv4 address that does not come from one of the private IPv4 address ranges is a public IPv4 address.

Private Private IPv4 addresses are intended only for communication in private networks. They can be used simultaneously in any number of different networks. Queries to private IPv4 addresses are never routed to the internet.
Public Public IPv4 addresses are used by only one device in the world at any time. They serve as unique identifiers for the devices to which they are assigned. Queries to public IPv4 addresses are routed to the internet.
