MyFRITZ! Sharing

Overview

By default, the FRITZ!Box's firewall protects all of the devices in the FRITZ!Box home network from incoming connections and unwanted data from the internet. With port sharing, you or authorized users can access online games, file-sharing software, and other internet applications via the internet, or allow users in the internet to access web servers and remote maintenance servers, the graphical interface of a NAS system, and other server services in your home network. In this case, the FRITZ!Box's firewall continues to protect your home network from unwanted data from the internet.

Port Sharing and MyFRITZ! Sharing

The FRITZ!Box offers various options to grant access to server services or browser-based applications:

  • Releasing ports for sharing, for instance to access game consoles or a server service in the FRITZ!Box home network, such as a remote maintenance or VPN server.
  • MyFRITZ! sharing, for instance to access browser-based applications in the FRITZ!Box home network, via HTTP.

MyFRITZ! sharing settings specify shared ports which you can access only via a MyFRITZ! account. These MyFRITZ! sharing settings do not apply to internet access that does not take place via MyFRITZ!.

Which type of sharing is best depends on the requirements of the respective application or server service and your own personal preferences.

When do I configure MyFRITZ! sharing settings?

Configure MyFRITZ! sharing in the FRITZ!Box in situations like the following:

  • You want to access a browser-based application in the FRITZ!Box home network via the internet, for example a web server or graphical interface of a NAS system.
  • You want to open a browser-based application via a direct link in the device overview on myfritz.net.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The FRITZ!Box is registered with a MyFRITZ! account.
  • The FRITZ!Box must obtain a public IPv4 address or an IPv6 address from the internet service provider.
  • You must be able to access the server service with a web browser.
  • If the server service is installed on a computer with its own firewall, this firewall must be configured such that access to the server service is possible from the FRITZ!Box home network and from the internet.
