Extra confirmation to configure certain settings and functions

To keep your FRITZ!Box secure, during configuration you will be prompted to confirm selected settings and settings changes by pressing buttons on your FRITZ! product or on a connected telephone. This two-factor authentication is enabled by default.

Important:To protect sensitive FRITZ!Box settings, AVM recommends always using the additional confirmation (two-factor authentication) option. Disable this setting only if you have compelling reasons to do so.

Enable confirmation via Google Authenticator app

The confirmation with Google Authenticator is a further security feature for your FRITZ!Box. With Google Authenticator you enter an additional code from the app to confirm a change to the settings. This two-factor authentication can be used, for instance, when you are operating your FRITZ!Box from another location.

The confirmation codes from the Google Authenticator App are one-time passwords valid for only a limited time. These passwords are generated using a method called "Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP). Alternative to the Google Authenticator App, you can use any other app that supports the "TOTP" method.

If you enable Google Authenticator here, then you can configure the Google Authenticator app for a certain user and a certain smartphone in the "System / FRITZ!Box Users / Users" menu.
