Switching DECT On and Off

Overview

With the "DECT enabled" setting you can switch the DECT base station on and off.

Rules

  • "DECT enabled" is enabled automatically whenever you register a DECT device (cordless telephone, Smart Home device) with the FRITZ!Box.
  • "DECT enabled" is disabled automatically when no more DECT devices are registered.
  • If you disable "DECT enabled", the connections to the registered DECT devices will be cleared. The devices will be reconnected when you enabled "DECT enabled" once more.

Changing the PIN

Overview

The preconfigured PIN for registering DECT cordless telephones like FRITZ!Fon is set to "0000" in the FRITZ!Box. You can also specify a different PIN.

Rules

  • Automatic registration of FRITZ!Fon cordless telephones works only with the preconfigured PIN "0000". If you change the PIN, you have to enter the PIN to register a new FRITZ!Fon cordless telephone.

Using Expanded Registration Mode

Expanded registration mode is a special registration mode for DECT devices that are already known to the FRITZ!Box but no longer connected to it. In expanded registration mode you can register multiple DECT devices (for instance, FRITZ!Fon, FRITZ!DECT) in sequence. You do not have to restart registration on the FRITZ!Box for each DECT device.

Reducing Field Strength and Enabling DECT Eco

Overview

To reduce the radiation of the DECT radio network, you can reduce DECT transmission power and enable DECT Eco.

When DECT Eco is enabled, the FRITZ!Box switches off the DECT radio network as soon as all cordless telephones are in standby mode. The connection to the cordless telephones is maintained, however. When a call arrives or you press a key on a cordless telephone, the DECT radio network is switched back on.

Requirements for DECT Eco

  • All of the registered cordless telephones must support DECT Eco. In the user interface, the option "DECT Eco supported" must be displayed for each telephone under "DECT / DECT Monitor".
  • The following devices must not be registered with the FRITZ!Box: FRITZ!DECT devices with an outlet switch, FRITZ!DECT Repeater, another FRITZ!Box in DECT repeater mode.

Instructions: Reducing DECT Transmission Power

If you use all DECT devices at locations near the FRITZ!Box, you can reduce the transmission power of the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Enable the checkbox "Reduce DECT transmission power".
  2. Click on "Apply".

Instructions: Enabling DECT Eco

  1. Select "DECT / Base Station".
  2. Enable the checkbox "DECT Eco".
  3. Select whether DECT Eco should always be enabled, or define times when DECT Eco should be switched on and off.
  4. Click on "Apply".

Configuring Security Functions

Overview

The FRITZ!Box is preconfigured to allow only authenticated and encrypted DECT connections. For these connections you can enable or disable the expanded security functions early encryption and re-keying.

In order to use DECT repeaters from other manufacturers that do not allow encrypted connections, you can allow non-encrypted connections.

Rules

  • Eavesdropping protection for DECT telephone calls is strongest when encryption (the "Permit only secure connections" option) and the expanded security functions are enabled.
  • FRITZ!Fon cordless telephones support the expanded security functions, but some cordless telephones from other manufacturers may not. Disable this setting if problems like interrupted connections arise when using cordless telephones from other manufacturers.

Restrictions for Non-Encrypted Connections

The following FRITZ!Box features can not be used if you allow non-encrypted connections:

  • Registration of FRITZ!DECT Repeater or FRITZ!Box in DECT repeater mode
  • DECT Eco
  • HD telephony
  • own ring tones for FRITZ!Fon
  • playback of web radio or podcast with FRITZ!Fon
  • display of background image or photos of callers on FRITZ!Fon
  • playback of music files from the FRITZ!Box media server with FRITZ!Fon

Instructions: Permitting Non-Encrypted Connections

  1. Select "DECT / Base Station".
  2. Enable the option "Permit non-encrypted DECT connections".
  3. Click on "Apply".

Setting Up Access Protection

Overview

Various FRITZ!Box functions can be controlled with a FRITZ!Fon. To prevent unauthorized persons from accessing these functions, you can set up a four-digit PIN to protect access to certain functions.

Instructions: Setting Up Access Protection

  1. Enable the checkbox "Access protection enabled".
  2. Enter a four-digit PIN.
  3. Specify the FRITZ!Box functions for which access protection is to apply.
  4. Click on "Apply".
