Sharing for Device

Internet / Permit Access / Port Sharing / Add Device for Port Sharing

Select from the list the network device for which you would like to configure port sharing.

Click on the "OK" button to save your settings. If you leave the page without saving, all of your changes will be discarded.

You can configure port sharing immediately for the selected device. You can also add port sharing settings at any later point in time.

Important:If the network device has a fixed IP address that is not from the address range of the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server, this IP address must be entered under "Home Network / Home Network Overview / Network Connections" in the detailed settings for the device. A network device can have a fixed, public IP address, because a service running on the device is to be reachable from the Internet.

Field nameField contents
Device Clicking on the field opens the list with the network devices present in the home network. The list contains all of the network devices for which no port sharing has been configured.
IPv4 address The IPv4 address of the selected network device is displayed.
MAC Address The MAC address of the selected network device is displayed.
IPv6 interface ID The IPv6 interface ID of the selected network device is displayed. The IPv6 interface ID is the IPv6 address. The IPv6 interface ID is displayed only if IPv6 is enabled in the FRITZ!Box and the network device supports IPv6.

Permit independent port sharing for this device

When this option is enabled, the device is allowed to configure its own port sharing settings.

A prerequisite for this is that the device is able to configure port sharing independently. This is the case if one of the following applies, or both:

  • The device supports UPnP or PCP. Devices that support UPnP or PCP include smartphones and smart TVs.
  • There are applications with UPnP or PCP support on the device.

IPv4 Settings

Open this device completely for internet sharing via IPv4 (exposed host)

When this option is enabled, it has the following effects:

  • All ports in the FRITZ!Box firewall are released for sharing with the selected network device. The exception are those ports which have already been released for sharing with another network device.
  • The network device no longer enjoys protection offered by the FRITZ!Box firewall.
  • No further port sharing settings can be configured in the entire home network.
  • This option can be enabled only for a single network device in the home network.

You should only enable this option for the purposes of testing. It is more secure to release only those ports for a device which are actually needed for sharing.

IPv6 Settings

Enable PING6

When this option is enabled, the network device responds to PING6 queries from the internet.

The FRITZ!Box responds to PING queries from the internet that are directed to the IPv6 address of the FRITZ!Box. Since every network device in an IPv6 network has its own IPv6 address, each individual device in the home network can be opened to PING6 queries.

Open firewall for delegated IPv6 prefixes of this device

This option is intended for the following scenario:

  • The device is a router itself, for instance a second FRITZ!Box, with its own local network.
  • The FRITZ!Box has a native IPv6 connection and obtains its prefixes through prefix delegation by the internet provider.
  • The device obtains its prefixes through prefix delegation by the FRITZ!Box.
  • The local network of the device includes network devices that are to be reachable from the internet. Port sharing settings for these network devices are configured in the device.

When this option is enabled, the network devices can be reached by queries from the internet. The FRITZ!Box routes the queries on to the device.

If this option is not enabled, the FRITZ!Box will block queries, because the port sharing settings for the network devices are not known in the downstream network.

Open this device completely for internet sharing via IPv6 (exposed host)

When this option is enabled, the FRITZ!Box firewall is completely open to IPv6 connections for this network device. Complete sharing for internet access via IPv6 can be configured for each network device.

Permit Access

The table displays all of the port sharing settings configured for the device:

ColumnMeaning
Status

The icon in the column indicates whether or not a port is enabled for port sharing.

A green means enabled

A gray means disabled

Name The name of the application or the server service
Protocol The internet protocol used by the application or server service
IP Address in the Internet The public IP address of the FRITZ!Box
Port Assigned Externally The port at which the FRITZ!Box accepts queries for the application or the server service
Clicking on this button opens the "Edit Sharing" window.

Clicking on the button cancels the port sharing. The application or the server service can then no longer be reached from the internet.

Editing a Sharing

If you would like to change an existing sharing setting, click on this button .

The "Edit Sharing" window will open; see Edit Sharing.

New Sharing

If you would like to create a new port sharing setting for the network device, click on the "New Sharing" button.

The "Create Sharing" window will open; see Create Sharing.
