Registration in the Home Network

System / FRITZ!Box Users / Login to the Home Network

Overview

To keep your FRITZ!Box secure, you will always be requested to log in when you open the FRITZ!Box user interface. Login protects access to the functions and settings on your FRITZ!Box. Within the FRITZ!Box home network there are two ways to log in to your FRITZ!Box:

  • Login with a general FRITZ!Box password that grants general access to all areas of the FRITZ!Box. This login method is the default setting in the FRITZ!Box.
  • Login with a personalized FRITZ!Box user account, with which access to the FRITZ!Box can be configured differently for each user.

Here you can specify which login method you want to use.

To save the settings, always click on the "Apply" button at the bottom of the page.

"Login for Access to the Home Network" Section

The following login methods can be configured:

Login with FRITZ!Box user name and password

Each user of the FRITZ!Box logs in with their own FRITZ!Box user account, that is, with their own FRITZ!Box user name and a unique password. A FRITZ!Box user account is configured in the "System / FRITZ!Box Users" menu.

Configure this login method for the following cases:

  • You want to configure different access and settings options for different users.
  • You want to access your FRITZ!Box from the internet.

Login with the FRITZ!Box password

You log in using a general FRITZ!Box password. This login method is preconfigured.

Configure this login method for the following cases:

  • You configure your FRITZ!Box as the only user.
  • You do not want to access your FRITZ!Box from the internet.

Instructions: Assigning or Changing a FRITZ!Box Password

  1. Enter a secure password of your choice in the "FRITZ!Box password" field; see Tips and Characters for Passwords.
  2. Click "Apply" to save the password.

Login without password (not recommended)

With this setting you remove the password protection from your FRITZ!Box. The FRITZ!Box is then no longer protected from unauthorized access. Enable this setting only if you have compelling reasons to do so.

Login by button

To keep your FRITZ!Box secure, enable the "Login by button" setting. Then you will be prompted to press a button on your FRITZ!Box to log in whenever you access the FRITZ!Box user interface.

"Confirm" Section

Here you can specify whether the user should enter additional confirmation for certain settings.

Extra confirmation to configure certain settings and functions

To keep your FRITZ!Box secure, during configuration you will be prompted to confirm certain settings and settings changes by pressing buttons on your FRITZ! product or on a connected telephone. Disable this function only if you have compelling reasons to do so, for instance, if you will have to change FRITZ!Box settings via the internet on a regular basis.

Enable confirmation via Google Authenticator app

Login with Google Authenticator is an additional security feature for your FRITZ!Box. The Google Authenticator app provides for two-factor authentication with single-use passwords in accordance with the "Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH)".

If you enable Google Authenticator here, the you can configure the Google Authenticator app for a certain user and a certain smartphone in the "System / FRITZ!Box Users / User" menu. When accessing the FRITZ!Box from the internet you can then enter a confirmation code from the app rather than providing additional confirmation by pressing a button on the FRITZ!Box or a connected telephone.
