Network Settings

Home Network / Home Network Overview / Network Settings

On the "Network Settings" page you can make changes to the network settings of your FRITZ!Box.

Inappropriate settings can have the result that the FRITZ!Box user interface is no longer accessible!

Click on the "Apply" button to save your settings. If you leave the page without saving, all of your changes will be discarded.

Guest Access

You can configure the "LAN 4" port as a guest access. Using the guest access you can allow your guests to access the internet via your FRITZ!Box.

  • Guests have access only to the internet.
  • Guests have no access to your home network or the user interface of the FRITZ!Box.

Prerequisites for Guest Access

The internet access of the FRITZ!Box must be configured so that the FRITZ!Box establishes the internet connection itself. If the FRITZ!Box is configured as an IP client, so that it uses the internet connection of another device, then no guest access can be configured.

The configuration of the internet connection can be viewed in the "Internet / Account Information" menu.

Restrictions on the Guest Access

For guest access at the "LAN 4" port the restrictions set for the "Guest" access profile apply. The "Guest" access profile also applies for the Wi-Fi guest access.

The "Guest" access profile can be viewed and edited in the "Internet / Filters / Access Profiles" menu. Since this access profile applies for all guest connections to the FRITZ!Box, any changes to the profile affect all guest access connections.

Restrictions can be configured when setting up the Wi-Fi guest access ("Wi-Fi / Guest Access" menu). The restrictions are adopted by the "Guest" access profile and thus also apply to the "LAN 4" guest access.

Enabling the LAN Guest Access

Check the "Guest access for LAN 4 enabled" checkbox if you would like to use the "LAN 4" port for guest connections.

Terms of Use for the Guest Access

You can make login with the guest access dependent on consent to the terms of use.

Enable the "Permit login with guest access only after consent to terms of use" checkbox if you want to allow login with the guest access only after consent to the terms of use.

When they login with the guest access, guests have to consent to the terms of use.

You determine the terms of use. You must also ensure that the guests can view the terms of use.

Preparing and Connecting the Network Device

  1. Configure the network device (generally the computer's network adapter) to automatically obtain IP settings.
  2. Use a network cable to connect the network device to the "LAN 4" port on the FRITZ!Box.

Multiple Network Devices at the LAN Guest Access

With a hub or switch you can connect several network devices with the FRITZ!Box's LAN guest access.

IP Addresses

IPv4 Addresses

With the "IPv4 Addresses" button you open the "IPv4 Settings" page. The IPv4 settings for the FRITZ!Box can be changed on this page.

IPv6 Addresses

With the "IPv6 Addresses" button you open the "IPv6 Settings" page. There you can specify how the FRITZ!Box assigns Unique Local Addresses (ULAs) to local network devices if no IPv6 connection is active.

Static Routing Table

If there are subnets in your local network which are to have internet access via the FRITZ!Box, and these network addresses are not yet known to the FRITZ!Box, then you can enter IP routes in the static routing table. This way the subnets are made known to the FRITZ!Box.

IPv4 Routes

Click on the "IPv4 Routes" button to enter IPv4 routes in the FRITZ!Box static routing table manually.

IPv6 Routes

Click on the "IPv6 Routes" button to enter IPv6 routes in the FRITZ!Box static routing table manually.

Time Synchronization

With this function the FRITZ!Box can synchronize the date and time with time servers in the Internet.

Time Server

The FRITZ!Box synchronizes time and date with time servers entered in the "Time server" field.

The following time server is preconfigured:

You can enter a different time server here. It is also possible to enter multiple time servers. The individual time servers then must be separated by semicolons or commas.

Making FRITZ!Box Available as a Time Server in the Home Network

Enable this option if the FRITZ!Box is supposed to be used as a time server in your home network. This setting is enabled upon delivery of the FRITZ!Box.

Settings for time synchronization at the network devices:

The information on time synchronization in the Internet is generally provided to the network devices automatically.

The timer service of the given operating system is responsible for time synchronization with the time server. In Windows operating systems the timer service is switched on by default.

If network devices connected with the FRITZ!Box are supposed to synchronize their time with the FRITZ!Box, then enter the local IP address of the FRITZ!Box in the timer service of the corresponding operating system.

In Windows operating systems this information is defined in "Control Panel / Clock, Language and Region / Date and Time / Internet Time". The entry for the time server is the local IP address of the FRITZ!Box or simply "" ("" is entered by default).

DNS Rebind Protection

To guarantee the security of the computers in the FRITZ!Box home network, the FRITZ!Box suppresses DNS responses that refer to IP addresses in the home network. This is a security function of the FRITZ!Box to protect against what are known as "DNS rebinding attacks".

If you would like to enable DNS resolution for domain names that refer to private IP addresses in the FRITZ!Box home network, you can specify exceptions. In this case DNS queries for domain names contained in the list of exceptions will receive a response even if the DNS response refers to an IP address in the FRITZ!Box home network.

If exceptions for DNS rebind protection are entered in the FRITZ!Box, the internet connection should be monitored with security software (firewall, virus scanner) on every computer in the FRITZ!Box home network.
