AVM Services
Internet / Account Information / AVM Services
On the "AVM Services" page you have the possibility of configuring settings for the AVM services. The services provided by AVM help keep your FRITZ! product and FRITZ!OS up to date, assist in their further development, and improve their security.
Note:We recommend enabling the use of all AVM services on your FRITZ! product.
FRITZ!Box searches for updates periodically
This AVM service automatically searches the AVM web pages for firmware updates for your FRITZ!Box at regular intervals. Regular updates increase the security of your FRITZ!Box in your home network and on your internet connection.
Configuring Settings for Automatic Updates
Settings for automatic updates are configured in the "System / Update / Auto-Update" menu. Specify there whether your FRITZ!Box should notify you about available updates or install them automatically.
Notification About New Updates
When an update for your FRITZ!Box is found, you will be notified in the upper area of the "Overview" page. Updates will be installed automatically only if you specify this under "System / Update / Auto-Update". Start an update by clicking on the link "Update available" on the "Overview" page with the mouse, or in the "System / Update" menu.
Disabling the Search for Updates
The search for updates is enabled in the FRITZ!Box upon delivery. You have the option of disabling the search for updates for your FRITZ!Box if you do not wish it to search for firmware updates automatically:
- Disable the setting "FRITZ!Box searches for updates periodically" on the "AVM Services" page.
- Click on the "Apply" button.
Diagnostics data
In order to improve your FRITZ! product, and to ensure safe operation on your line, when the "Diagnostics data" option is enabled, your FRITZ!Box will send technical diagnostics data to AVM as needed:
- Technical diagnostics data are transmitted by your FRITZ!Box to AVM for analysis in specific cases of errors (error reports) or suspected abuse by third parties.
- When certain web pages on en.avm.de are opened, your FRITZ!Box transmits device-specific data, like the product name, version number, and technical data on the internet connection, so that the presentation on the AVM web pages can be better tailored to your product.
Supplying an Email Address for Queries
If you enter your email address in the field "Email address (optional)", this address may be used for any queries that arise in processing an error report.
Note:An email address entry is voluntary and has no effect on the sending of diagnostics data or device-specific data.
Disabling the Sending of Diagnostics Data
The sending of diagnostics data is enabled in the FRITZ!Box upon delivery, but you have the option of disabling the sending of diagnostics data if you do not wish to have these data sent:
- Disable the "Diagnostics and maintenance" setting on the "AVM Services" page.
- Click on the "Apply" button.
Diagnostics and maintenance
When the "Diagnostics and maintenance" option is enabled, your FRITZ!Box can be reached by AVM for diagnostics purposes. This way AVM can resolve problems more quickly and securely. In this case all of the diagnostics data retrieved by AVM are anonymized to the greatest extent possible and necessary, and do not include any data you assigned.
- In individual cases, AVM can retrieve selected technical diagnostics data, as for error analysis or for the purpose of support.
- In individual cases, AVM can retrieve a summary of diagnostics data, as for error analysis or for the purpose of support. This summary can be viewed under "Internet / Account Information / AVM Services“.
- If necessary, AVM can perform a software update, regardless of the other update settings in your FRITZ!Box, in order to ensure undisturbed operation.
- AVM records a random sample of FRITZ! products to collect statistically relevant data on quality, application scenarios and ambient parameters. These data serve to further develop the product and improve its quality.
- When the "Diagnostics and maintenance" option is enabled, a randomly selected, access-protected port on the FRITZ!Box is opened.
Disabling the Retrieval of Diagnostics Data
The retrieval of diagnostics data is enabled in the FRITZ!Box upon delivery. You have the possibility to disable this setting if you do not wish these data to be retrieved:
- Disable the "Diagnostics and maintenance" setting on the "AVM Services" page.
- Click on the "Apply" button.
Viewing Diagnostics Data
- To view the diagnostics data, click on the "View Diagnostics Summary" button.
A text file is downloaded, which you can view in an editor.
Protection of Your Personal Data
In the communication between AVM and your FRITZ! product, device-specific data like data on device identification, the FRITZ!OS version of your FRITZ! product, the network provider of your connection, and basic settings, are transferred to AVM. These data are important for AVM for the following reasons:
- Device-specific data are required to determine the appropriate update for your FRITZ! product and FRITZ!OS version.
- AVM needs and uses diagnostics data to remedy errors and problems, and to improve the quality of the product and our services.
Note that the diagnostics data and device-specific data do not include any personalized data. Also, AVM does not pass these data on to third parties. Please also note the exact wording of the Data Privacy Statement.
AVM Services: Settings in the Mesh
If there are multiple FRITZ! products in the home network, the settings for AVM Services will be adopted from the Mesh Master. This overwrites any settings already configured in the Mesh Repeater or the Mesh Powerline adapter. These settings cannot be changed in the Mesh Repeater or the Mesh powerline adapter.
If you want to configure different settings for AVM Services for a FRITZ!Box that is deployed with another FRITZ!Box (the "Mesh Master"), then disable the "Adopt settings from Mesh Wi-Fi enabled" option in the "Adopt Settings from the Mesh" section of the "Home Network / Mesh / Mesh Settings" menu.
Note:If you disable the adoption of settings in the Mesh, then other settings will also not be adopted automatically, including Wi-Fi settings, settings for auto updates, push services and Smart Home.
