Security
Wireless / Security / Encryption
WPA encryption protects your wireless network from unauthorized use. When establishing a wireless connection to the router (FRITZ!Box), the FRITZ!Repeater adopts the WPA mode and the network key from the router. You can change these settings.
Changing the Wireless Network Key
You can change the wireless network key.
Example
You would like to select the wireless network of the FRITZ!Repeater specifically on wireless devices. For this reason you assigned the wireless network a different name (SSID) than the wireless network of the FRITZ!Box. Now the wireless network of the FRITZ!Repeater should receive a different wireless network key.
Requirements
The following prerequisite must be met if the FRITZ!Repeater is located in the Mesh of a FRITZ!Box:
- The "Adopt settings enabled" checkbox must be disabled in the "Access to Home Network" menu of the FRITZ!Repeater user interface.
Instructions: Changing the Wireless Network Key
- Select "Wireless / Security".
- Select the desired WPA mode.
- Enter a network key.
The network key must be between 8 and 63 characters in length. We recommend a length of at least 20 characters from the list of valid characters.
- Click "Apply".
WPA mode
WPA mode | Properties |
---|---|
WPA2 | Wireless devices that support WPA2 can establish a connection to the FRITZ!Repeater. All of the latest wireless devices support WPA2. |
WPA+WPA2 | Wireless devices that support WPA2 or WPA can establish a connection to the FRITZ!Repeater. The FRITZ!Repeater uses WPA2 if a wireless device supports WPA2. |
Additional Security Settings
The wireless devices displayed may communicate with each other
With this setting you specify whether the displayed wireless devices can exchange data with each other:
Setting is | Function |
---|---|
Enabled | The wireless devices can see each other and exchange data with each other. |
disabled | The wireless devices cannot see each other or exchange data with each other. |
Allowing All Wireless Devices or Restricting Wireless LAN Access
Enabling the option "Do not allow any new wireless devices" does not provide sufficient protection from unauthorized use of your wireless network. To protect the network effectively, set WPA encryption under "Wireless / Security".
With these options you define which devices can connect with the FRITZ!Repeater:
Option | Permitted devices |
---|---|
Allow all new wireless devices |
|
Do not allow any new wireless devices |
New wireless LAN devices can be introduced to the FRITZ!Repeater by clicking the "Add Wireless Device" button. |
